Ensuring fire systems work together effectively

Fire protection systems within a building include distinct equipment and machinery which must work together. These include detection monitors, alarms, air conditioning and ventilation systems, pressurisation fans and door operations. Fire mode testing evaluates how all these systems work together under alarm conditions. If one part of the system fails or operates incorrectly, the impact of the fire can be escalated. For example, ventilation fans should remove smoke from the building, not increase it’s spread.

EastlinkAir will determine which integrated systems require testing and evaluation. The requirements may differ for specific buildings. Fire mode testing then simulates an emergency scenario to determine both the performance of individual systems and their integration. Ensuring integrated fire systems respond as intended ensures occupants are protected and the requirements of Australian Standard AS 1851-2012 are met.
